Description
Summary:The importance of e-mail is undeniable in today’s world. Information exchange is made efficient to all parts of the world through this medium. In business, e-mail is seen as a crucial tool in communication. There is an issue raised by Business English authors whether to use formal or informal language. Some authors say email is not a formal form of communication and the language used must be informal. Others state that e-mail should be formal and therefore formal language must be used. To find out whether formal or informal language is used in e-mail communication, an e-mail inquiry was sent out seventy textile companies. Results showed that some companies used formal language while other used informal language.
