Summary:This study aims to determine the relationship between high-performance work system and employee engagement in manufacturing industry at Pasir Gudang. More specifically, this study determined the relationship between staffing, training and learning, reward and recognition, participation and empowerment with employee engagement. A total of 136 samples were gathered from 210 employees from Mewaholeo Industries Sdn Bhd and Panasonic AVC Networks Sdn Bhd. A quantitative research methodology was used in this research and the data were collected using online questionnaires as the instrument. Then, the data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics were reported, followed by reliability analysis, Spearman’s Rank Correlation and hypothesis testing using stepwise multiple regression. The findings showed there was a significant relationship between staffing, training and learning, participation and empowerment and employee engagement in the selected companies. Besides, findings from this study also indicated that training and learning were the most dominant independent variables for employee engagement in the selected companies. This study contributes to the employees working in manufacturing industry, organization and HR practitioner and government to improve the policy and work design to ensure employee engagement retain being applied among employees.
