Description
Summary:A sample size of eight Kedah-Kelantan crossbred cows was used in this research to analyse the physical signs and behavioural of oestrus expression. The cows were grouped into one group which consists of 8 cows and one bull in a paddock. Controlled Drug Release (CIDR) containing 1.38 g progesterone was administered for 7 days to synchronise the oestrus physical sign and behaviour characteristics followed by subcutaneous injection of 2ml Cidirol. After 7 days, the CIDR was removed and bull was introduced to allow natural mating. Then, the behavioural and physical signs of oestrus were observed. The oestrus expression was observed for five consecutive days which is twice per day during morning at 8.30 am and evening at 5.30 pm. The oestrus observation was observed visually for five consecutive days because for identify the preoestrus, oestrus and postoestrus sign. The preoestrus generally the closer signs of true oestrus (standing heat) or known as signs before oestrus and the postoestrus known as late signs of oestrus or after oestrus. Body score condition (BCS) is the only parameter was used in this research. Physical signs of oestrus including reddening of vulva, swelling of vulva and mucus discharge. There is significant different P-value is smaller than (P<0.05) for redden and swollen of vulva. In contrast, for mucus discharge there has no significant different due to P-value greater than (P>0.05). BCS showed significance effect due to P-value less than (P<0.05) for all the behavioural characteristics which are includes wagging of tail, sniffing or rubbing, vocalisation, flehmen, mount other herdmates, standing heat, stand to be mounted, chin resting and restlessness. As a conclusion, BCS and days of obsenlation of cows was influenced mostly on oestrus sign.
