Summary: | This study focused on the development of import and export of goods and services between Malaysia and Southeast Asia (SEA) countries. The Southeast Asia (SEA) countries are Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Myanmar, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, East Timor and Lao PDR. Trade box analysis method is used in analysing the trade pattern from the year 2014 until 2018. The existence of adjustment pressure is also identified. The result had identified that Malaysia is the net exporter for the trades with Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, East Timor and Lao PDR for the whole period. As for Indonesia, Brunei and Vietnam, the trade patterns between Malaysia and these three countries fluctuated between Malaysia being the net exporter and net importer during the period. This study also showed that the adjustment pressure only exists for trades between Malaysia and Brunei and between Malaysia and Lao PDR but not between Malaysia and other countries. |
