In terms of rate of growth, Samarahan has contributed 3.92% from the last census period (1991 - 2000) to Sarawak’s economic growth. Previously Kota Samarahan was known as Muara Tuang. The means to Muara Tuang from Kuching was linked only by river. During the early seventies, it was connected by road access. The linked is about 25-kilometres marked as the starting point for the development era for Kota Samarahan.
