Description
Summary:The management of scrap tires has become a growing problem in recent years. Scrap tires represent one of the several special wastes that are difficult to handle. Thus, there is a need to solve the rubber disposal problem. Recently, scrap rubber has been used in asphalt highway construction, but there are still some limitations in the rubber application. Scrap tires are believed to be able to produce better performance asphalt pavement, which can provide quieter riding environment, and less defective pavement. The purpose of the research is to determine the performance of the asphalt pavement with the existence of scrap tires, compare with the conventional asphalt pavement. The research will be conducted by adding the scrap tires to substitute small part of fine aggregate in the asphalt mixtures. The scrap tires will be cut into small pieces and mix together with the conventional mixtures of coarse and fine aggregates as well as filler. The rubber modified asphalt are designed using Marshall Mix Design and tested using Wheel Tracking Test and Beam Fatigue test to evaluate pavement performance on fatigue and permanent deformation. The main purpose to conduct the research is to enhance the conventional pavement performance. It is successfully determine the performance of Rubber Modified Asphalt mixture is better than the conventional mixture. Perhaps the research can help to promote the used of scrap tires in asphalt pavement for better performance.
