Summary: | Corrosion is a natural phenomenon which causes the destruction and deterioration of
material because of its reaction with the environment. Corrosion can be either general
or localised corrosion. The corroded pipeline will lead to the failure of the pipeline.
Pipeline failure may cause major losses to the environment and also could lead to
fatality of human lives. The integrity of pipeline is an essential aspect that had to be
considered in order to avoid unnecessary losses or accidents during operation. The
current available codes are said to be conservative which lead to premature repair or
replacement. The objective of this study is to estimate the failure pressure of corroded
pipeline with single defect subjected to internal pressure and longitudinal compressive
stress. This study was focussed on API 5L X52 material. The failure pressure results
obtained by the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) were compared to the results obtained
using DNV – RP – F101 standards. |
