The risk of foodbome illness is even greater when it comes to consuming fresh produce such as vegetables and fruits. However, the causes of foodbome illness can be eliminated through effective cleaning and sanitizing and in ensuring safe food for consumers. Thus, it's crucial to have an effective food detergent that will protect the product, the people, and businesses from the risks of illness and decay-causing pathogens in this sector. Currently, the fruit and vegetables industry are cleaning using various chemicals e.g., hypochlorite to rid it off harmful microbes. However, this approach is detrimental to the environment as most of the chemicals used also produced dangerous byproducts, emitted harmful gas such as chlorine and are corrosive, causing food equipment to deteriorate faster. In an industrial setting i.e., fruits and vegetables processing plants, this problem will end up causing the industry millions of dollars. This prototype intended to overcome the mentioned problem through the development of green biodegradable food detergents that can kill pathogens effectively, safe to use and will not introduce any ill effect the environment. Previous research has proven the antimicrobial characteristics of Sintok extract against various bacteria including food contaminant such as E. coli and Salmonella as well as its biodegradable characteristics. The objectives of this project is to develop a prototype of biodegradable fruit and vegetable detergent from Sintok (Entada spiralis) extract, evaluate it based on industrial and household users and finally revise and enhance the prototype based on feedback's from the industrial experts and end users. At the end of this research, we expected to produce a biodegradable fruit and vegetable wash name called "BioSintok Prowash". Upon completion of this study, an application for PRGS PRGS/1/2019/TKl0/UUM/02/1 was submitted to further develop the prototype but the application for unsuccessful UUM 2022 Monograph NonPeerReviewed application/pdf en https://repo.uum.edu.my/id/eprint/31649/1/14331.pdf Mohamed Ismail, Risyawati and Mohd Zamani, Siti Norhasmaedayu (2022) Organic Biosintok Prowash from Entada Spiralis (Sintok) Extract for Postharvest Application of Agriculture Produce (S/O 14331).
