Summary:UNIVERSITI Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is prepared to provide its expertise to help the Malaysian Volunteers Department (RELA) to strengthen its Crisis Management Team (CMT).Vice chancellor Datuk Prof Emeritus Dr Kamarudin Hussin said as a technology, innovation and engineering­ based institution of higher learning, its exper­tise could be applied to provide service during a disaster, like flood and fire. UniMAP has the expertise in technology and knowledge in handling of the students' RELA Brigade (RELASIS) which could develop technology for volunteer works, he said after the commissioning of UniMAP and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) RELASIS yesterday. He advised RELASIS members to maintain their discipline. Earlier, RELA DG Datuk Kamariah Mohd Noah in her speech, told RELASIS members not to join the brigade simply to fulfil their co­curriculum requirement.RELASIS will be effective if members understand the concept of vo­lunteerism, besides fostering national unity and to be tole­rant, she added.She said RELA now has 2.9 million mem­bers and 1.17 million of them are youth. Also present at the event were Perlis RELA director Abd Halim Abdullah and UUM Student Affairs Department director Dr Mohd Dino Khairi Shariffuddin. — Bernama
