Summary:Education is a very important aspect in building a united, loyal, and productive country. Teamwork leadership is one of the important elements in improving the educational sector. The purpose of the research was to investigate the principal teamwork leadership practises among five Limbang District secondary schools. The research also aims to measure the head departments' motivation level. Additionally, the study also looks at the relationship between principal teamwork leadership and motivation of the secondary school head department and the motivation level differences according to gender. The research population was 102 respondents from all the head. departments in the five schools. Research instrument was a set of questionnaire which consisted of 71 items in three sections. Section A consisted of seven items that collected demographic information, section B consisted of 30 Teamwork KSA items to measure the principals teamwork leadership practices and section C with 30 items. to measures the head departments' motivation level. All the data collected were analysed using Statistical Packages For- Social Sciences' (SPSS Version 12.0). The research findings were reported using descriptive (percentages and mean), and diferential statistics (Pearson correlations and Independent T- Test). 'The results showed that the principals' practice of teamwork leadership were high. The most important domain was goals setting and performance management, followed by communication channelling, collaborative problem solving, duty planning and coordinating and conflict solving. The motivation level of the head departments was also high. Nevertheless, the relationship between principal teamwork leadership and motivation of the secondary school head departments was not significant. The findings also showed that there was no significant difference in the motivation level among head departments according to the gender. The research findings may assist the Ministry of Education, State Education Department, District Education Offices, Institute of Aminuddin Baki, Principal and Headmaster Training Centres to take appropriate steps in planning courses, trainings and seminars to improve the school leaders' knowledge, skills and attitude towards implemention teamwork leadership.
