Summary: | Food waste is a social issue as it exacerbates food security and hunger, particularly in places where food is scarce or resources are limited. Food banks play an essential role in achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by addressing food waste and providing food assistance to people in need. The purpose of this study is to understand deeply the operation of the food banks and the best practices of food bank model to achieve sustainable development goals in Malaysia. In this study, an exploration between several cases of food banks operation was conducted. Data was collected through several interviews and document analysis and the data was analysed to understand the operation and model of the food bank organizations. Thematic analysis was also used to identify patterns and themes in the data by using ATLAS.ti as a medium for managing and coding the data resulted from the interview. The findings of the food bank models were discussed in terms of its customer segment, key partner, key activities, key resources, value proposition, customer relationship, channel, cost structure, and revenue stream. A general model for food bank operation was proposed for newly established food banks to follow. For food bank employees, politicians, funders, and other stakeholders interested in reaching the SDG targets for eradicating hunger and promoting sustainable food production and consumption, the study's findings have significant ramifications. The study lays the groundwork for further investigation and emphasises the necessity of ongoing cooperation and innovation in the realm of food banks. Overall, this study advances knowledge of the food bank model and its potential influence on meeting SDG targets |
