Summary:The study examined the determinants of marital adjustment among married civil servants in Ogbomosho metropolis, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study also examined the gender difference in respondents’ view of determinants of marital adjustment. Using a descriptive survey, purposive and convenient sampling techniques were used to select 384 respondents who participated in the study. The data collection tool was a self-designed instrument entitled “Factors Influencing Marital Adjustment Questionnaire” (FIMAQ), with 0.72 test re-test reliability coefficient. Factor analysis and independent t-test were used to analyses the data collected and the hypothesis was tested at 0.05 alpha level. The findings revealed that communication, a gap in couple’s age, a gap in couple’s educational attainment, sexual fidelity, personality differences and expectations before marriage are the determinants of marital adjustment among married persons in Ogbomosho metropolis. Also, a significant difference was found between male and female respondents on determinants of marital adjustment. Relevant recommendations were made based on the findings of the study.
