Summary:In the al-Quran there are verses that tell about the Messenger of Allah has been accused of being insane or mental disorder by infidels Quraisyh in his day. Why someone who was a very precious in the sight of Allah is accused of being insane by his people? What are the characteristics of him until such accused? This article attempts to investigate the meaning and characteristics of insane as it was intended by the Quraisyh. The methodology used is by analyzing the content of the word "al-majnun" (المجنون) in the Quran as well as making reference to the book of commentary. Then, the researcher refers to some orientalist view to get a deeper understanding the meaning of insane in the context of Quraisyh. The study found that the accusation was referring to the three main points. First, the use of the word al-majnun to portray a sense of awe, wonder and bizarre towards Prophet massages that involving unseen and abstract concept like faith of Allah Almighty, heaven and hell, sin and reward. Second, it refers to his strange and unique experiences particularly during revelation. Third, it refers to the miracles bestowed by Allah SWT as proof that he is the messenger of Allah SWT
