Prediction of optimum performance in self-organizing networks with dynamic source routing protocol

An ad-hoc network is a special type of wireless mobile networks formed by a collection of mobile platforms in a self-organizing way without relying on any centralized administration. A good routing protocol for the ad hoc networks should be minimizing routing overhead and power conservative. Many di...

Computer science An ad-hoc network is a special type of wireless mobile networks formed by a collection of mobile platforms in a self-organizing way without relying on any centralized administration. A good routing protocol for the ad hoc networks should be minimizing routing overhead and power conservative. Many different protocols have been proposed in solving routing problems in mobile ad hoc networks. As a result, a study of evaluating the performance of a protocol in the most systematic ways becomes significant. Such study is important in order to know about the actual performance of the protocol. Many performance evaluation studies have been reported, but most of which were conducted based solely on experimental studies with no formal statistical method applied. In this study, a statistical method is presented to evaluate the performance of dynamic source routing protocol in mobile ad hoc networks. The protocol is evaluated with respect to number of packets dropped and routing overhead. An experiment matrix is used to perform simulation, after which the selected methods of analysis are performed to simulation data.
