Summary: | This study aims to investigate the relationship between technostress and organisational commitment among the librarians in the Malaysian public higher learning institutions. A total of 282 librarians were chosen as the respondents for this study. A cross-sectional survey was carried out and data were collected using selfadministered survey. The levels of technostress and organisational commitment were measured by calculating the mean score. T-test and ANOVA were undertaken to compare the technostress and organisational commitment levels according to demographic groups. The relationship between technostress creators and organisational commitment was measured using Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. In addition, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was utilised to examine the moderating effect of technostress inhibitors on the relationship between technostress creators and organisational commitment. The results show that the respondents experienced moderate level of technostress and high level of organisational commitment. Techno-overload and techno-uncertainty were found to be significantly and positively associated with organisational commitment. Collectively, technostress creators significantly explained 10.8 percent to the variance in organisational commitment. As for the moderating effect of technostress inhibitors, both literacy facilitation and involvement facilitation did not significantly moderate the relationship between technostress creators and organisational commitment. Nevertheless, technical support was discovered to moderate the relationship between techno-overload and organisational commitment. All the technostress inhibitors variables were, however, found to be significant predictors for organisational commitment. This study demonstrates that a certain amount of stress is essential in enhancing commitment towards organisation. Moreover, it reveals that the existence of literacy facilitation, technical support and involvement facilitation is crucial in boosting organisational commitment. The findings, furthermore, highlight the significance of matching employee’s needs with situational demands and the importance of “joint optimisation” of technical and social aspects in the organisation if attractive outcomes are desired. |
