Comparison of gas permeability models for mixed matrix membranes

Comparison of several well-known models for predicting mixed matrix membrane (MMMs) gas permeabilities are discussed. The models that are considered are: Maxwell model, modified Maxwell model, Lewis-Nielsen model, modified Lewis-Nielsen model and Felske model. For comparing the models, experimental...

QD Chemistry Comparison of several well-known models for predicting mixed matrix membrane (MMMs) gas permeabilities are discussed. The models that are considered are: Maxwell model, modified Maxwell model, Lewis-Nielsen model, modified Lewis-Nielsen model and Felske model. For comparing the models, experimental data of MMMs, inorganics including zeolites 4A and 13X and neat polymer permeabilities are needed. MMMs and neat polymers permeabilities can be collected from the literature, but nearly no intrinsic permeability for zeolites is available from the related articles. First, a set of zeolites permeabilities were prepared using diffusivity coefficients and equilibrium adsorption isotherms. Then comparison was carried out. The Percentage of Absolute Average Deviations (AAD%) for the models decrease in the order: Lewis-Nielsen model > Maxwell model > modified Lewis-Nielsen model> Felske model > modified Maxwell model. 2009 Conference or Workshop Item PeerReviewed Hashemifard, S.
