Summary: | A preliminary study on investigating heater characteristics in multimode interference (MMI) based variable optical attenuator (VGA). The MMl-VOA was designed based on the hybrid application of photodefinable polymer on BK-7 glass. Simulations were carried out using BeamFropTM software and the device analyses were based on the attenuation range, maximum and minimum attenuation and temperature at maximum attenuation. It was found out that by proper placement of heater electrode and optimized electrode size, belter attenuation range and lower applied power can be obtained. |
