EXPERIMENTALLY INVESTIGATION THE PERFORMANCE OF TURBO-GENERATOR IN GASOLINE VEHICLE

In internal combustion engine, only 25% of heat energy from engine gets used to move car down the road and run accessories. Without realize, around 40% of the heat energy generated from combustion chamber is lost to the environment through exhaust gas. Turbo-generator developed as a...

Without realize, around 40% of the heat energy generated from combustion chamber is lost to the environment through exhaust gas. Turbo-generator developed as a waste heat recovery (WHR) system and installed to 1.6 liter gasoline engine. This method used to convert heat energy (exhaust gas) into electric energy (generator). For natural aspirated engine, high temperature occurred in exhaust manifold up to 600˚C at high speed engine suitable for turbo-generator function as well. Power from turbine shaft transmitted to generator and electric voltage produced stored into additional battery pack. This recovered power used to support electric accessories in vehicles such as audio system, navigation system and others. On road experiment tested in this paper to show the behavior and performance of turbo-generator system. Measurements for temperature, output voltage, air mass flow rate, engine speed, alternator speed and vehicle speed collected and recorded by sensors and data logger. As result, output voltage from generator each up to 14.0 V and it is sufficient for charging Conventional battery pack. 2012-04-04 Conference or Workshop Item PeerReviewed application/pdf en http://eprints.utem.edu.my/id/eprint/7473/1/Full_Paper_ICEI_2012.pdf Herawan, Safarudin Gazali and Ayob, Md Razali (2012) EXPERIMENTALLY INVESTIGATION THE PERFORMANCE OF TURBO-GENERATOR IN GASOLINE VEHICLE.
