L-cysteine was covalently attached to multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) via N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N′-ethylcarbodiimide-N-hydroxysuccinimide (EDC-NHS) carbodiimide coupling as a recognition element for its high metal-chelating ability towards Pb2+ and Cd2+.
