Summary:The aim of education in Islam is to produce an individual with characters or good manners. The view of Islam in regards to this matter is definitely different from other contemporary views such as the humanistic-paganistic-secularistic view. This is because the Islamic world view is based upon the values inculcated in the Qur'an and the sunnah which are in line with the primordial character within human being. The reality of human being as the most perfect creation is seen by Islam to begin from the piousness of the individual. The goodness of an individual is not seen merely in his social interactions or in being a good citizens. This is because the character within is an inborn thing which is beyond external influence. In discussing this the writer will study and analyse a well known work written by al-Ghazzali which is the Bidayah al-Hidayah. This is because al-Ghazzali had not only dealt other issues but he had also written on the importance of character building. He believes that only by focusing and getting guidance JKM Islam and via riyadhah would the human being be able to achieve and fulfill their potential in their acts, character and ethics.
