Summary: | Roselle is known as 'asam susur' in Malaysia. It was introduced in early 1990s and its
commercial planting was first promoted in 1993 by the Department of Agriculture in
Terengganu. Roselle calyces are harvested fresh to produce pro-health drink due to high
contents of vitamin C and anthocyanins. In order to obtain the calyces, one of the
important steps is to remove the seed capsule from the flower. Current method is by using
a simple handmade cutting tool. This method is simply by forcing and rotates the sharp
edge of the cutting tool onto the bottom side of Roselle and the seed capsule will be cut
and stick together at the sharp edge of the cutting tool. For the high volume of output, this
method will cause stress to the user's hand due to long period of the manual action.
Hence, the output is influenced by the ability of the person energy utilization to cut the
seed manually. Taking into consideration to the problem, Roselle's Seed Capsule Cutting
Machine is develop to give better cutting result, cost effective and friendly in use. |
