A bibliometrics analysis was carried out on the literature of Islamic Economics; using a journal, titled “Thoughts on Economics” as the database. Six year period from 2000-2006 was considered as the range of the study. The purpose of the study is to find out the periodic growth of the literature, author patterns, geographic origin of the published literature, and the language of dispersion of the literature. Appropriate and relevant bibliometrics methods were applied for the study. The findings of the study exhibit that 51 papers were published through out the period of the study 77% of the published papers emanates from Bangledash, while the remaining 23% were shared among nine countries of the world. On the collaboration activities only 21% of the papers were collaborated. This shows that the contributions of the Muslims scientists in this field are more in single authorship. Also English language dominates other languages by scoring88.2% while Urdu scored 19.6%. Arabic the language of the quran was absent during the period of the study. The findings of this study will hopefully assist the information workers in the selection of relevant and current materials in this vast literature, policy making and decision making processes. The study will also open doors for similar researches using similar bibliometrics methods to be conducted in other subject disciplines. 3 2009-03-19T09:07:39Z 2009-03-19T09:07:39Z 2008 Conference Paper Theme: Islamic information resources: problems, prospects and challenges http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/1650 en |
