Based on the informations available it can be deduced that pepper is tetraploid (2n= 4x) and heterozygous. the foot rot resistance is apparently controlled by a single additive gene which undergoes either chromosome or maximal equational segregations. and chromosomal changes contribute to the crop's variability. Recent studies indicated that the number of harvestable spikes per node contribute the most to pepper yield.
