One of the objectives of this thesis is to subliminally educate respondents about Malaysia's future plans on implementing an alternate energy source and its history of nuclear power development. Other than that, we want to examine the level of acceptance and perception of Malaysian university students towards nuclear power as this thesis could potentially support and help the Malaysian Nuclear Agency to gain an understanding of university student point of view. The methodology used for this research are given mostly through social media, mainly through Whatsapp and Facebook to better spread the survey with little to no cost of expenditure. The survey questions have been properly thought through with certain question that aim to target the awareness and understanding of the respondents towards nuclear power. Results showed that 47.8 % of respondents somewhat well informed of nuclear energy after answering all other questions in the survey which applies that respondent's learns a few knowledge regarding nuclear power. Meanwhile, 54% of respondents are strongly concerned of the risks associated of nuclear power as Fukushima Daiichi Incident is the most recent and most devastated nuclear incident from now. Of the 460 respondents answering the survey, only 27% of them somewhat favour nuclear energy as an alternate energy source in powering electricity throughout Malaysia but 29.6% are uncertain about it. The survey could be heavily biased towards university students who is pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Medical) course as 52.8% of them make up the majority of respondents answering the survey with only 13% are taking Information Technology course. An overwhelming majority of 38.9% are strongly unaware of the existence of TRIGA PUSPATI although it has been operational since 1982 stimulates a concern of the lack of education about nuclear energy in Malaysia. Based from the analysis of the results, we can conclude that respondents are still uncertain as the majority of respondents in the "Awareness of Nuclear Power Plants in Malaysia" section mostly answered "somewhat not informed " and " somewhat informed" as their answer which furthers the speculation that respondents lack a strong understanding of nuclear energy. To properly prepare Malaysia's future citizens for its first implementation of a nuclear power plant, the Malaysian government needs to prioritize education to engage with its youths and working adults of the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power plants to have a better understanding of the subject. 2024-12-13T03:41:59Z 2024-12-13T03:41:59Z 2017 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/35308 en application/pdf |
