my.uniten.dspace-349602024-11-04T09:14:28Z Techno-economic analysis of bio ethanol production from rice straw by liquid-state fermentation Muhamad Harith Mohamad Hidayat Biomass chemical TP339.M83 2015 This thesis studies the potential biomass rice straw and its use to generate biofuel namely bioethanol through liquid state fermentation. The study was starting with accessing Malaysia's biomass potential and its current alternatives to engage on the sustainable energy problem that is faced by mankind with fossil fuel sources being limited and is depleting. Renewable energy is the latest approach of the Malaysian government in an effort to incorporate biofuel renewable energy into the national fuel mix. Being a country that thrives in the service and agricultural sector, bioethanol production from lignocellulosic biomass presents itself as a potential permanent solution. Although it is a promising event, the process that is involved requires great efficiency and development to be economically viable. Thus this research had acquired multiple case studies that had served to provide insight on processes that are involved and its implication on production as well as to obtain a cost analysis of bioethanol production. The energy and cost of three main component was evaluated which are collection of rice straw, logistics of rice straw, and pretreatment of rice straw all of which ignores the fixed cost of the process as it only contributes to less than 20% of the total process for its entire lifespan. Based on case studies, the factors that affects each major component was known and appropriate solution to each was proposed. As the study had answered and achieved the targeted objected which concludes the study as currently not feasible in Malaysia without change in the efficiency of pretreatment and the reduction of transport and pretreatment of rice straw which are the highest contributor to overall cost of the process. This thesis can serve as a reference to future studies that leads to commercial biofuel breakthrough in Malaysia. 2024-11-04T01:14:27Z 2024-11-04T01:14:27Z 2015 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/34960 en application/pdf |
