This is due to its stress induced tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation. It has transformation toughening mechanisms in its microstructure that could provide components made out of them, very excellent mechanical properties. However, these mechanical properties have been studied and it's known to have deteriorated as a result of a phase transformation taking place at low temperature ageing in moist environment at 60°C 500°C.
