The fabricated material was tested for mechanical and physical properties to define similarity of properties as suggestion of replacement with existing polymer used in automotive interior. The process of creating the composite material involves mercerization, manual fabrication and mechanical test. The data was collected and analysed, needs an improvement on strain and impacts strength to reach the standard. Based on tensile test done, the result of 100% Kenaf and 100% Pineapple has achieved required tensile strength for both dashboard and bumper. Next, strain result for all material fabricated composite shows 4 times higher than strain of dashboard however, it is 80% lower for bumper. The density of the composite and bumper material shows large difference. The tensile result ranges from 29.5 to 3.5MPa with percentage difference of 88.14%. According to hardness test done, 70% Kenaf with 30% Pineapple and 30% Kenaf with 70% Pineapple were the highest and lowest average reading obtained, respectively. The result ranges from 17.4 to 19.84 HRB, and the difference between the two material mentioned was 12.3%. Then the result of impact test obtained displays the highest and lowest were 100% Kenaf and 50% Kenaf with 50% Pineapple, accordingly. The range of impact test was from 0.70 to 0.30J with percentage difference of 57.14%. From the three test done on the material, each material obtained different properties such 100% Kenaf has a good tensile strength and impact, 70% Kenaf is with 30% Pineapple excellent hardness despite poor tensile strength and impact, 50% Kenaf with 50% Pineapple was poor tensile strength and impact with excellent hardness, 30% Kenaf with 70% Pineapple was poor in every test done and lastly 100% Pineapple shows decent tensile strength and hardness but poor impact test. The properties of the material could be fit in other parts with the similar standards in shifting polymers to composite material made by Kenaf and Pineapple. A modification of fibre with an additive could improve the properties of the material, depending on desire properties which were shown in previous studies. 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
