So far all of the global green building standards have been focusing on commercial buildings, residential developments. Hotels have fallen into a gap that needs to be addressed. Hotels have unique dynamics which make them more complex and resource dependent to be able to provide service and quality to ever demanding consumers. This paper takes a snapshot of where is the hotel industry in Malaysia and Singapore and explores the level of understanding of these hotels in what they have to do as not only part of their moral obligation, but also just as importantly the commercial pressures as the cost of basic resources increase but with consumers expecting better value for money. It requires good fundamental engineering practice and a holistic view of where resources are used and where there are opportunities for reuse. Hotels do not want to reinvent this each and every time, so a green code of practice with key areas common to the majority of hotels, plus a rating system to compare performance of these hotels in essential to raise the bar in the industry and work to the goal of everyone doing their part to help reduce emissions and also reduce demand. This paper surveyed 20 hotels in the region. 2024-08-26T04:44:04Z 2024-08-26T04:44:04Z 2012 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/33332 en application/pdf |
