The specific objective is to determine the reduction of recirculation flow in bend pipe when the pipe inserts are installed. Other than that, fluid velocity in the pipe flow also will be determined as it will affect the vorticity that exists in the pipe flow. The recirculation tends to occur when the fluid in the pipe flows passes the bend junction and T-junction of the pipe flow. The high vorticity that occurs in the pipe flow will cause the noising sound and will affect the lifetime of the pipe. The high velocity curl that occurs in the pipe flow also will lead to the crash of metal plate and erosion of the pipe surface. As reported by one of the company operating large treated water piping, it was stated that the large centrifugal, have been installed are not misaligned or damaged. Hence, this work is carried out to determine the vorticity and velocity curl that exist in the pipe flow and also to reduce the recirculation by installing the pipe inserts at the T-junction. Vorticity and velocity curl is the similar behavior that takes place in bend pipe flow which the flow is moving in the rotating motion which also known as the recirculation. Some of the literature review and background studies had been done in order to investigate the problem and to understand more about the project. Next, ANSYS Design Modeller and ANSYS FLUENT are used to design the pipe flow as the real scale given. ANSYS FLUENT software is then used for simulating the flow passing through the pipe, with and without the inserts. The pipe insert will be placed at three different location which is at the center, right and left in the pipe flow. The dissimilar significance of vorticity value is used in order to investigate the behavior of the recirculation in the pipe flow. Prior to the actual simulation, grid dependency test was carried out to ensure grid independent solution. The recirculation behavior in the pipe flow are successfully investigated and the vorticity value also had been determined which the best case in this study is by install bend pipe insert in order to reduce the recirculation in the pipe flow. 2024-07-30T07:53:26Z 2024-07-30T07:53:26Z 2018 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/33006 en application/pdf
