The geometry of the microstructure of these louvered fins play big roles in affecting the performance of the heat exchanger. In this study, the effect of number of louvers and turnaround louver length on air side heat transfer performance is numerically investigated. The louvers serve to redirect the flow of air for vortex generation to destroy high resistance thermal boundary layers. By manipulating the number of louvers, the effect on the heat transfer characteristics is investigated. As for the turnaround louver, it serves as a device to redirect louver-directed air stream to prevent concentration of air at either the top or bottom of the fin. By changing the length of the turnaround louver, the effect of this change on the degree of redirection and corresponding heat transfer characteristic is investigated numerically. The pressure drops associated with these two changes are considered by incorporating the Performance Evaluation Criterion (PEC) to determine whether the performance of the heat exchanger is better or worse after applying the new fin structure. This work is conducted via numerical study using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) as the main concept in verifying the objectives of this study. In the end of the work, findings have proven that the optimal number of louvers for enhanced heat transfer is 4 louvers, and the optimal turnaround louver length for maximum heat transfer is 0.75mm. In this thesis, the full description of work will be presented, which includes the study on previous works, methodology of current work and detailed findings of current work. 2024-07-29T03:15:54Z 2024-07-29T03:15:54Z 2018 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/32956 en application/pdf |
