Two controllable parameters has been identified to conduct a parametric study and they are the diameter of sand drains and the spacing between the center-to-center of drains. The geotechnical software PLAXIS V8 was used to model and analyze the soil behavior. A total of ten trials of parametric study were conducted. The minimum drain diameter in this study is 0.1 mm and the maximum being 0.3 mm. The minimum drain spacing is 1.0 m and the maximum spacing being 1.5 m. The graph of excess porewater pressure versus time was plotted for each trial and compared to determine the parameter that provides the shortest time for consolidation. The results show that by increasing drain diameter and reducing drain spacing, the duration for consolidation to complete is shorter compared to other trails with small diameter of sand drains and large center-to-center spacing. The rate of achieving complete consolidation as well as the vertical settlement of soil under the embankment improved with sand drains for various trails conducted will be discussed in detail in this thesis. The results obtained will shed some light on obtaining the optimum design to be adopted for ground improvement of clayey soil improved with sand drain and embankment preloading. 2024-07-25T03:12:17Z 2024-07-25T03:12:17Z 2012 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/32918 en application/pdf
