To reduce the dependency of using fossil fuels to power the motors in the transportation industry, an alternative source of energy has to be used. In recent years electric motors have increased in demand and this in return has increased the demand in an energy storage systems. There is a huge demand for energy storage systems with a high energy density while also having a high power density. A Supercapacitor in recent years have increased in energy density while still having the high power density of a traditional capacitor. This has made Supercapacitors an excellent candidate to be an alternative energy storage system. Like all energy storage systems, a monitoring device is needed to ensure the system operates reliably and lifespan of the energy storage system is met. Therefore, a monitoring device is needed to monitor the state of health and state of charge of a Supercapacitor. This project aims to demonstrate a method to monitor Supercapacitors using a microcontroller. To design this project, the monitoring system was split into two parts which consist of hardware and software. By using a graphical approach such as a flowchart, the sequence to execute the system was designed. Extensive research was done to find the most suitable hardware and software to be used as a monitoring system. Following that, circuit construction and software programming was done. Lastly, the full prototype was constructed and tested extensively. 2024-06-13T03:59:31Z 2024-06-13T03:59:31Z 2018 Resource Types::text::Final Year Project https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/32615 en application/pdf |
