Current home security system using the traditional lock has it weakness. This has increase home burglary case in Malaysia. Other than that, current smart home security system is too expensive and not affordable by most of the resident. The objectives of this research are to study and design a low cost smart home security system with high functionality by improving the efficiency and detection range. The component needed to construct the smart home security system consists of infra board, wooden board, Arduino Mega, servo motor, etc. The prototype is constructed according actual layout plan of a single storey terrace house with a ratio of 1:15. There are three sub systems which are smart door security, fire alarm and surveillance in which its connected to microcontroller Arduino Mega. Once the master tag is placed at the Radio-frequency identification (RFID) receiver, the system initializes. When the RFID receiver detects an unidentified card, the door will not unlock. On the other hand, the fire alarm activates the buzzer and led when flame sensor detects. Finally, surveillance system rotates the recording camera toward the area in which human motion is detected and records the moment. Besides, as an improvement to the system, the smart door will automatically unlocks when the fire alarm detects fire in the detection range. The smart door system has successfully decrease the unlock time compare to traditional lock. The fire alarm and surveillance system sensors has successfully optimize with the maximum detection angle and range to find out the number sensors need in a house. Combine the sensors and microcontroller and make it smaller, make the system more user-friendly by introducing buttons and switches is the recommendation of this project.
