Halim Boilers Finite element method TA347.F5 K42 2009 Boiler tubes are energy conversion components where heat energy is used to convert water into high pressure superheated steam, which is then delivered to a turbine for electric power generation in thermal power plants. Heat energy is obtained from combustion gases produced by burning coal or oil in the furnace. Study had been conducted on boiler tubes by using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software, ANSYS to determine the temperature distribution on the boiler tube in a specified step of time. One of the major contributors to the tube failure is the scale formation developed on internal surface of the boiler tubes. Heat transfer rate across the tube will also decrease due to the accumulated scales inside the tube. From the temperature distribution obtained, internal scale occurred in the boiler tube can be calculated using numerical methods in each increments of time. When the oxide scale growth and average temperature in each steps of time are known, the remaining life and the performance of the tube also can be obtained using numerical method.
