Energy dissipator is a device designed to protect downstream areas from erosion by minimizing the flow velocity up to an acceptable limit. It is an important element of hydraulic structures as a transition between the high-velocity flow and the sensitive tailwater. This paper reviews energy dissipaters in connection with dam and spillway structure. This paper also describes the different types of energy dissipators with different appurtenances used in hydraulic structures for protection work.
