The size of an antenna will be a big issue for the 900MHz frequency band. The objectives of this work are to investigate the effects of the metal plane reduction in the radiating plane patch antenna and the effects of the defected or partially ground plane technique on the circular shape microstrip patch antenna design performances. The size reduction and defected ground plane methods are implemented in the design. Directivity radiation pattern performance has been investigated and analyzed using defected or partially ground plane technique. The method of reduction of the metal plane area from radiating patch implemented managed to achieve 96% size reduction of the metal plane and 82% of size reduction from total antenna design. Defected or partially ground plane managed to achieve absolute-doughnut shape radiation pattern as an omnidirectional antenna. All related performance for an antenna such as return coefficient in dB, bandwidth in Hz, directivity in dBi, and gain in dB is simulated, analyzed and discussed. Simulation and measurement results performance of ring topology patch antenna also been observed and discussed. Computer Simulation Software is used to simulate and analyzes the performances of the antenna and the fabricated antenna performances are measured using Vector Network Analyzer. This antenna is meant to be used in the energy harvesting application. 2019 IEEE.
