However, the amount of waste is expected to rise to 30,000 tonnes by the year 2020. The increasing amount of waste generated continues due to an increase in population and development that is happening in Malaysia. Last year Malaysians produced close to 3 million tonnes of the waste but shockingly, out of this significant amount only 0.06% or about 1800 tonnes of waste were recycled while the rest were sent to landfills. This is according to Solid Waste Management, and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) collected from January to November throughout the year of 2018. Environmentalists say that sources via public action and education can be tackled for the concern of the massive amount of waste generated. There is a lot of initiative that can be made to improve the awareness of our community in Malaysia, and improvements must be made. As been published in The Star, April 2011, the cleaning work has been carried out by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd has been taken over by the nine local authorities in Selangor while Menteri Besar Tan Sri Ibrahim said: “The state government had decided that Alam Flora would only be charged with garbage collection, while local authorities would do the cleaning work.” [32] To improve awareness, expanding the research area regarding recycling of 3R waste would help to get the main focus on keeping the mentality of recycling in every community's mindset. Improving the recording system of collecting waste and the level of cleanliness in every area is needed for easy reference and for more ideas in the way of improvements in the future. Comparison on-campus and off-campus must be made to get the main reason on why recycling has not been an essential thing to the communities and last but not least, by getting the collection of demographic data and get focus on the specific area in the future research. 2023-05-03T17:33:29Z 2023-05-03T17:33:29Z 2020-09 Resource Types::text::Thesis https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/21652 application/pdf
