It converts power from AC to DC to drive the LED voltage converter because LEDs run on DC power. It also manages the amount of power that is flowed through the LED lighting system. For this project, the DC-DC converter that is used in the 18 W LED driver to facilitate the dimming function for the LED is Single-Ended Primary Inductance Converter (SEPIC). Dimming is often required for LEDs for energy saving and to create different light illuminations that are suitable for every group of users. In order to achieve the dimming function for indoor low lighting application, a converter control technique is necessary. The research presents a feedback closed loop control which is called Model Predictive Control (MPC) to be implemented with the LED driver. The feedback loop provided by the controller should be able to apply the optimal duty cycle to achieve the dimming function. This project is aimed to explore the advantage of using Model Predictive Control as well as to observe the time dynamic performance and stability of the converter. The simulation results have been obtained by using MATLAB/Simulink.
