Iron oxide is a by-product from the acid regeneration process which takes place in the fluidized-bed. The waste acid is called spent acid which is an after product from steel pickling process where worked steel sheets are dipped into pickling baths. This is done to remove the oxide layer that resides on the surface of the worked steel piece. Acid regeneration plants are available in most steel mills as it saves cost by recycling the used acid for future uses. There are many methods of acid regeneration and one such method is called the fluidized-bed process. The oxide waste gained from this process is in granular form and is magnetite, hematite and wustite. This granular is then milled into ultra-fine powder by the means of ball milling process. Hematite is predominant and is red in colour. The samples were then scanned using XRD analysis to determine its chemical composition. The hematite pigments were then mixed with various ratios of industrial grade red colour pigments before being milled again to obtain a homogenous particle size. The colour difference was studied using the chroma meter device which can determine the intensity of the colour red. Particle size plays an important role when it comes to colour pigments. This was obtained using the SEM analysis. Hence, the final product was then applied on tiles using the wet-on-wet painting method. Once the coating dried, it once again went through the chroma meter test. It was observed that iron derived colour pigment shows great tinting strength and produced a smooth and even paint. 2023-05-03T15:18:26Z 2023-05-03T15:18:26Z 2020-09 https://irepository.uniten.edu.my/handle/123456789/20752 application/pdf |
