Summary: | This project was designed to develop a guideline for arresting oscillations of power systems subjected to temporary conditions, in which the effects of a typical disturbance on the stability of the system was assessed and mitigated. The project focuses on the IEEE-39 bus power system simulated and analysed using NEPLAN software under normal conditions, with and without stability controllers. A comparison analysis was then conducted on selected parameters of the power system, generators’ voltage and current profiles. The simulation findings show that, even with a short period, small disturbances cause oscillations which persist for a long time and lead to instability problems. Furthermore, simulation findings show that using a combination of AVR and PSS to dampen the swing of the power system is an effective solution.
