The Government of Malaysia is now in the midst of transformation. One of the focuses is to improve the system delivery of the Government through digitalisation, with the goal set to serve the public better. The digitalisation initiative involves the Malaysian Public Sector (MPS) agencies, organisations responsible for providing public service. To ensure the digital transformation is accomplished as intended, both business functions and IT in these agencies must be strategically aligned to work harmoniously and supportively. Previous studies have shown that the maturity level of alignment is rarely measured explicitly. However, the unknown alignment maturity level is reflected in the IT governance and management issues occurring in the agencies. This study intends to assess the alignment maturity of the MPS agencies through a case study on the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) by adopting the Strategic Alignment Maturity Model (SAMM). The findings indicate MAMPU has its strategic alignment maturity established to enable its function as the lead agency for modernization and transformation of Public Service Administration in the Malaysian Government. This study will provide a better understanding of the business and IT alignment of the MPS agencies.
