Description
Summary:This study focused on the taxonomics of dry specimens of the gastropod family Naticidae from the Sarawak Natural History Museum. A total of 146 specimens consisting of 6 species were found in the collection which are Mammilla melanostoma (Gmelin,1791), Neverita didyma (Röding,1798), Paratectonatica tigrina (Röding,1798), Polinices albumen (Linnaeus,1758), Polinices mammilla (Linnaeus,1758) and Tanea lineata (Röding,1798). A list of specimens of each species is provided in this study. Errors in classification may lead to the propagation of bad consequences in taxonomic and ecological studies. The museum is the center of public reference and should as possible avoid erroneous in the exhibition materials, especially with regard to animal identification. From all the available specimens in the museum, a nested dichotomous key of the Naticidae gastropods found in this study was built.
