The variables that analysed in this study are employment, unemployment, GDP per person employed and mortality rate in Malaysia. This study applied ADF and PP unit root test, Johansen cointegration test and VECM Granger causality test to investigate the relationship between variables. According to Johansen cointegration test, the results show that there is an existence of long-run relationship between employment, unemployment, GDP per person employed, and mortality rate in Malaysia. Besides, based on the VECM Granger causality test, there is a unidirectional causality running from unemployment to mortality rate and from GDP per person employed to mortality rate in Malaysia. However, in the long run, no variables are Granger cause mortality rate in Malaysia. The study suggests that policy makers in Malaysia should improve its social welfare system and enhance the education and training system in order to reduce unemployment rate and promote well-being of the society.
