Despite its substantial economic value, T. tambroides has received very little fundamental scientific attention with the exception of several existing studies on their growth performance and feeding in confined environments. The aim of this study is to assess and compare the gene expression of growth-related genes in T. tambroides with a focus on gaining insights into the modulation of the somatotropic axis and its components in distinct early developmental stages. The overall gene expression of gh, igf1 and igf1R were evaluated by semi-quantitative PCR with β-actin serving a housekeeping gene. To achieve the desired gene expression, the primer pairs of gh, igf1 and igf1R targeting main functional domain of somatotropin, superfamily of insulin and fibronectin type-III (Fn3), respectively was tested in hatchlings and three different consequential organ such as brain, liver and muscle in juveniles T. tambroides. The size of the gene amplified for gh is 600bp for every fish sample which is close to its expected size (587bp) and igf1 yield at about 450bp. However, the expression level of igf1R is much higher than expected at only 700bp as compared to the expected size at 525bp. As one would expect, the differences in the growth-governing endocrinology system during larval development and early growth affect the expression of growth-related genes with the GH/IGF1 system are proven to play pivotal roles in fish growth.
