Summary: | This article focuses on the application of philosophical
values in the architectural design of the Malay house
Anjung Layar Sari (RMALS) in Kampung Spaoh Betong
Sarawak. For the Malay community, which is synonymous
with Islam, the house is property, shelter and residence. That is why it was built with a priority on comfort, safety
and art, symbolizing the uniqueness of the Malay house.
The architectural design of Malay houses makes a lot of use
of natural elements and is based on the ideological
philosophy of the Malay community. Malay houses
generally conform to the concept of a universal "house"
because their construction is relatively more permanent.
The elements that determine the Malayness of a traditional
house can be seen in its architectural features. Motifs in the form of flora, fauna, and calligraphy are used the most
compared to other motifs and are used as a benchmark for
Malay house architectural identity. Data were obtained
through interviews with informants, the owners of RMALS
themselves. Data analysis explains the uniqueness of this
Malay house building through various architectural aspects
of the roof lattice, stairs, landscape, attic and wooden pegs as well as the use of flora, fauna and calligraphic motifs used such as duck motif, bamboo shoot motif and
traditional Indonesian batik motif. has the application of
philosophical values and carries its own meaning. |
