One can check Twitter and see what their favourite celebrity is up to, log onto Facebook to find out when a friend’s birthday is, or use Instagram to advertise a new business. However, is social media doing more harm than good? The purpose of this study was to conclude if there is a relationship between social media and self-esteem, especially among teenagers. The simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 50 students. This study investigates the social media usage and self-esteem among teenagers using correlational research design. 12 males and 38 females from primary school at Kedah state. Self-administered instruments were used to collect data. Data analysed by using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Pearson Correlation Coefficient Analysis and Independent-sample T-test were carried out to test the hypotheses developed for in this study. It was found that social media usage and selfesteem are strongly correlated. The findings showed the difference on social media usage between gender and there is a relationship between social media usage and self-esteem among teenagers. The conclusion of the current study is that a relationship exists between social media and self-esteem among teenagers.
