Description
Summary:The main objective of this project is to design and fabricate a semi-automated tool which incorporates both grass cutter machine and pesticide sprayer. The tool should be affordable, portable, easy to use and maintain. Few designs were done at the conceptual design part and after evaluating all the designs via Axiomatic Design, the finalized design was chosen. The fabrication process of the tool started by the development of the manual knapsack sprayer into a motorized knapsack sprayer with the installation of a diaphragm water pump. Meanwhile, the development of the grass cutter machine started from the installation of the motor and other components to it’s main body. Finally, both tools were integrated together in a single system and this tool was named as the 2-In-1 Multipurpose Tool. Testing of the 2-In-1 Multipurpose Tool was then done in order to identify whether the tool is able to efficiently function in a real working environment or not. Based on the testing results, it was seen that the motorized knapsack sprayer has an efficiency of at least 80% more than the manual knapsack sprayer and as for the grass cutter machine, the efficiency of the speed of the grass cutter head is 54% as compared to the motor’s rotation when no load is placed on it. In order to ensure that all the customer’s requirements were met, the tool was then tested by the potential customers and a survey was conducted from the testing. Positive feedbacks were obtained from all the respondents in regards to the tool’s functions as well as its appearance. Therefore, the results obtained from the testing and the survey concluded that a multipurpose tool was successfully designed and fabricated which was able to cater to all the requirements of the customers.
