Description
Summary:The topic discusses the representation of women in post-2000 in two Malaysian films entiled Embun (2002) and Buai laju-laju (2004). These two films were directed by two different directors of different genders. Embun was directed by Erma Fatima while Buai laju-laju was directed by U-Wei Hj Saari. The aim of the research was to analyze how women were portrayed through their role and characterization against their cultural and religion backround. Textual analysis was used to analyse text which was transcribed from the dialogues by the characters and visual analysis was used to analyse shots that were used as a language to frame women in the film. The analysis was then used to examine how culture and religion may have contributed and influenced the way the directors represented and portrayed their women characters in their films. The results shown that women were both glorified in both films but in different ways.
