Description
Summary:Diversity study of bats was conducted at a 5 years and 15 years plot of oil palm plantation at SALCRA Jagoi Oil Palm Estate, Bau, Sarawak. A total of 125 individuals of bats comprising five species were captured at both plots by using mist nets and harp traps during four sampling nights. This result represents approximately 5.38% of total Chiropterans known to occur in Borneo. There were five species captured at the 5 years plot while three species at the 15 years plot. Shannon-Weiner index showed that species diversity at the 5 years plot (0.3897) was slightly higher than the 15 years plot (0.2841). However, the number of individuals was abundance at the 15 years old compared to the 5 years plot (76 vs 49 individuals). The most common species captured at the 5 years and 15 years plot was Cynopterus brachyotis (33 and 58 individuals).
