Description
Summary:A study of four days study using boat survey method has been conducted in August 2016 at Kuching Wetland National Park. The purposes of this study are to estimate the population density and population size of proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus). The survey conducted only involved the whole part of mangrove forest in Kuching Wetland National Park which covered an area of 4996.94 hectare. The boat surveys were conducted twice in each day; once early in the morning (0600 - 0900) and once in the evening (1530 - 1830). During the survey, most of the proboscis monkeys were detected 100 metre away from the riverbank. The population density estimated with 0.98 individuals/km2 surveyed had shown a high number of proboscis monkey detected in Kuching Wetland National Park. It also estimated that the population size of proboscis monkey for the whole area in Kuching Wetland National Park is 48.97 individuals. The surveys also found that the number of proboscis monkey before might be higher compared to the present study as rapid tourism activity and forest clearance for timber occurred in Kuching Wetland National Park which lowering the number of proboscis monkey.
